Special Stitch Instructions
2DCCl
Yo, insert hook through st, yo, pull through a loop (three loops on hook), yo, pull yarn through first two loops on hook (two loops on hook), yo insert hook through same st as prev, yo, pull through a loop (four loops on hook), yo, pull yarn through first two loops on hook (three loops on hook), yo, pull yarn through all three loops on hook.
DCStndSt
Note: Can be substituted with (Ch 1, SC, Ch 2), any other chainless DC, or Ch 3.
Ch 1, SC in first st from prev rnd, Ch 1, SC in FLO of SC that was just made (i.e. stacking second SC on first SC).
DC-V
Note: The following instructions will make a DC – Ch 3 Sp – DC st sequence, using a single st from the prev rnd. Working multiple consecutive DC-V sts will create a triangle lace.
DC in st, Ch 3, DC in same st as prev.
SC-Pct
SC, Ch 3 or Ch 4 (according to preference), Sl St into last made SC.
Sl St-Pct
Sl St, Ch 3 or Ch 4 (according to preference), Sl St into back into same st from prev rnd.
Note: For a neater finish, when the second Sl St is being made insert the hook from back to front first through FLO of first Sl St and then through st from prev rnd.
Spn St
Note: Can be substituted with Crab St/Reverse SC.
Insert hook in st, yo, pull through a loop (two loops on hook), yo, pull yarn through first loop on hook (two loops on hook), spin hook 360O clockwise (a full rotation) on the horizontal plane, yo, pull yarn through both loops on hook.
Hints and Tips
- Col changes are not incorporated into the pattern instructions; however, cols can be changed as desired.
- When fastening off a col after a rnd, always leave sufficient tail length to securely sew in on WS.
- When commencing a new col for a rnd ignore pattern instructions to Sl St into next cnr sp and instead join new col directly into cnr sp to commence.
- Ensure the chains in the triangle lattice rounds are not overly tight. If working tight chains, then additional chain(s) may need to be worked to ensure the blanket rnd lies flat.
- Block finished blanket for best presentation.
Pattern Instructions
Notes:
- The blanket is made from a design that reps over nine rnds:
-
- DC/Ch 1 Sp filet.
- Solid DC.
- Triangle lace.
- Solid DC.
- DC/Ch 1 Sp filet.
- Solid DC.
- Budding blossom motif.
- Budding blossom motif.
- Solid DC/HDC.
- Work all sts in ( ) in the same st from the prev rnd.
- An explanation of the [ ] and * * rep instructions is provided in Appendix B of PDF. [ ] contain a short st sequence that is rep multiple times when constructing a single side of the blanket. * * contain longer st sequence that forms an entire side of the blanket. This is rep multiple times to make the remaining sides of the blanket.
- A st count follows each rnd instructions in ( ). This is provided for a single side only. Multiple by 4 for st count for entire rnd.
- DCStndSt are included in the DC st count.
- Sl St to begin and complete each rnd are not included in the st count.
- Each rnd always begins and ends in the same Ch 2 Sp cnr.
- If preferred, in Rnd 9/Rnd 19/Rnd 27/Rep Rnd 9 the DC in the Ch 1 Sp can instead by substituted with 2DCCl.

Optional Border
Instructions for a simple Picot border option are provided below.
Other simple but effective border options include:
- Finish pattern reps with solid DC rnd, then add a yarn fringe to all four sides of blanket.
- Finish pattern reps with solid DC rnd, then add a Crab St or Spn St border (with 2 sts – Ch 2 – 2 sts worked in each corner). Optionally add tassels to each cnr.
Simple Picot Border
Notes:
- Work Sl St and Sl St-Pct sts with even tension and ensure that sts are made with same tension as prev rnd sts. A slight loosening of typical Sl St tension may be required.
- If preferred SC-Pct can be substituted for Sl St-Pct.
- Border instruction Pct spacing is every four sts. If preferred, this can be modified to every second st instead.
- The Gold example blanket border has been added after a Rep Rnd 4. If adding this border after a different rep rnd then the picot spacing may need to be adjusted.
Rnd 1
*(Sl St-Pct, Sl St, Sl St-Pct) into first cnr Ch 2 Sp, Sl St in next three sts, [Sl St-Pct in next st, Sl St in next three sts] rep along the side to next cnr Ch 2 Sp*, rep sts btwn * * another three times.
Finishing
Fasten off yarn and sew all ends securely into WS of blanket.
Steam or wet block blanket for best presentation.
