Yo twice, insert hook through same st, yo, pull through a loop (five loops on hook), yo, pull yarn through first two loops on hook (four loops on hook), yo, pull yarn through first two loops on hook (three loops on hook). DCStndSt

Note: Can be substituted with (Ch 1, SC, Ch 2), any other chainless DC, or Ch 3. Refer also to YouTube video.

Ch 1, SC in first st from previous round, Ch 1, SC in FLO of SC that was just made (i.e. stacking second SC on first SC).

Invis Join

Note: Can be substituted with Sl St. Refer also to YouTube video.

Remove loop from hook, insert hook from back to front (through BL and then FL) of st that join is to be made in, return yarn loop to hook, pull yarn through st (from front to back). Gently pull yarn end to tighten join.

Puff

Note: The instructions make a modified Puff stitch. If a less dense Puff is preferred sts in can be rep two times instead of three times.

Insert hook through st, yo, pull through a loop (two loops on hook), rep three times in total (eight loops on hook). Yo, pull yarn through first seven loops on hook (two loops on hook). Yo, pull yarn through both loops on hook (one loop on hook).

Pattern Instructions

Notes:

  • [ ] contains a st sequence that should be rep according to the pattern instructions.
  • DCStndSt counts as a DC for st count purposes.
  • Beg Ch 1, beg Ch 2, beg Sl St, and fin Sl St do not count as a st.
  • A st count follows each rnd instructions in ( ).
  • If preferred, coasters can be made with 12 central daisy petals (instead of 11). Commence with 12 DC in Rnd 1 (instead of 11 DC), and then make one additional rep in each subsequent rnd.
  • If Rnd 5 Shell appears too full substitute 5 DC for pattern instructions 6 DC.
  • The 3L (to work 3LO sts for optional Rnd 6) is located at the back/WS of the st, behind, and approximately parallel with the back loop of the st. This is most easily located by slightly folding forwards/curling over the edge of the circle so that the reverse of the circle can be seen (as well as the front and back loops of the st).
  • Images of completed rnds (Rnd 2 onwards) are provided in Appendix B of paid PDF.
