Special Stitch Instructions
DCStndSt: Note: Can be substituted with (Ch 1, SC, Ch 2), any other chainless DC, or Ch 3. Refer also to YouTube video. Ch 1, SC in first st from prev rnd, Ch 1, SC in FLO of SC that was just made (i.e. stacking second SC on top of first SC).
FpDCStndSt: Note: Can be substituted with (Ch 1, FpSC, Ch 2) or any other chainless FpDC. Same principle of construction as for DCStndSt except the first SC is made around the st post instead of into the top of the st. Ch 1, FpSC around first st from prev rnd, Ch 1, SC in FLO of SC that was just made (i.e. stacking second SC on top of first SC).
Mod Bead: Note: The instructions below are for a Modified Bead Stitch. Refer also to YouTube video. The YouTube video demonstrates one more [ ] rep than the written instructions below, but the same principle of construction applies. Yo, insert hook in st, yo, pull through a loop, yo, pull yarn through first two loops on hook (two loops on hook), [yo, insert hook between st posts of prev st and current st, yo, pull through a loop (wrapped around current st post)] three times in total (eight loops on hook), yo, pull yarn through all eight loops on hook.
Tips
- For courser or thicker cottons one or more of the following modifications can be made:
- Rnd 1, one less rep for centre flower with five petals instead of six petals.
- Rnd 3, DC sts instead of HDC sts.
- Rnd 4 can be omitted.
- For thinner cottons the following modification can be made:
- Rnd 1, one additional rep for centre flower with seven petals instead of six petals.
- More pronounced Mod Bead with additional * * rep (for ten loops on hook in total before the last yo and pull through yarn).
Pattern Instructions
Notes:
- DCStndSt/FpDCStndSt count as a DC/FpDC for stitch count purposes.
- Beg Ch 1 and fin Sl St do not count as a stitch for stitch count purposes and should not be worked into in the following round.
- Where multiple sts are contained within ( ) in the pattern instructions, these stitches should all be made in a single stitch from the previous round.
- Repeat stitch sequence in [ ] the number of times specified by the pattern instructions.
- A stitch count follows each round in ( ).
Beg Circle
Leaving a beg yarn tail of sufficient length to sew in, make a circle with either MC, or Ch 4 and Sl St into first ch.
Rnd 1
DCStndSt in circle, Mod Bead in circle, [DC in circle, Mod Bead in circle] rep 5 times in total, Sl St into DCStndSt.
(6 DC, 6 Mod Bead)
Rnd 2
FpDCStndSt around DCStndSt, Mod Bead in btwn DCStndSt st post and next Mod Bead, FpDC around next Mod Bead, Mod Bead in btwn prev Mod Bead and next DC, [FpDC around next DC, Mod Bead in btwn prev DC and next Mod Bead, FpDC around next Mod Bead, Mod Bead in btwn prev Mod Bead and next DC] rep 5 times in total, Sl St into FpDCStndSt.
(12 FpDC, 12 Mod Bead)
Rnd 3
Ch 1, FpHDC around first st, 3 HDC in next Mod Bead (Shell made), [FpHDC around next st, 3 HDC in next Mod Bead (Shell made)] rep 11 times in total, Sl St into first st.
(12 HDC, 12 Shells (each with 3 HDC))
Rnd 4
Note: Mod Bead sts from Rnd 2 will be reused in this rnd. To do this, work Rnd 4 DC sts loosely over the top of Rnd 3 HDC sts. This provides the facial rnd with a more rigid structure. Pull upwards with the hook to lengthen the DC sts when these are being made.
Ch 1, FpSC around first FpHDC, 3 DC in next Mod Bead from Rnd 2 (Overlay Shell made), [FpSC around next FpHDC, 3 DC in next Mod Bead from Rnd 2 (Overlay Shell made)] rep 11 times in total, Sl St into first st.
(12 HDC, 12 Overlay Shells (each with 3 DC)).
