Pattern Instructions

Note:

  • Beg Ch 1/Ch 2/Sl St, and fin Sl St do not count as a st for st count purposes.
  • { } represents a st sequence that is to be repeated the number of times specified by the pattern instructions.
  • St count follows each round instructions in ( ).
  • The third loop (to work 3LO st for Design 4) is located at the back/reverse side of the st, behind, and approximately parallel with the back loop of the st. This is most easily located by slightly folding forwards/curling over the edge of the coaster so that the reverse side of the coaster can be seen (as well as the front and back loops of the st).
  • Colour changes are not included in the pattern instructions. Change colours according to preference. When joining a new colour for a round that commences with Sl St, omit the instructions to Sl St across to the next ch sp and instead join the yarn straight into this ch sp. Commence with the instructions that follow the Sl St. In Round 5 the new colour can be joined in the middle of any previous round Ch 6 Sp.
  • Ensure all ch st are made with an even tension in the following Rounds 4 and 5.

DESIGN 1 – Standard Petals

Beg Circle: Leaving a beg yarn tail of length sufficient to sew in, make a circle, either using a MC, or Ch 4 and Sl St into first Ch.

Round 1 – SC: Ch 1, 12 SC in beg circle, Sl St into first SC. (12 SC)

Round 2 – TR2TogCl Petals: Ch 4, TR in first st (counts as first TR2TogCl) (first petal made), Ch 2, {TR2TogCl in next st (next petal made), Ch 2} eleven times in total, Sl St into first TR. (12 TR2TogCl petals, 12 Ch 2 Sp)

Round 3 – 3 DC Clusters: Sl St into next Ch 2 Sp, Ch 3 (counts as first DC), 2 DC in same Ch 2 Sp (first 3 DC cluster made), Ch 1, sk next TR2TogCl, {3 DC in next Ch 2 Sp (next 3 DC cluster made), Ch 1, sk next TR2TogCl} eleven times in total, Sl St into third ch of beg Ch 3. (12 lots of 3 DC clusters, 12 Ch 1 Sp)

Round 4 – Ch 6 Sp: Sl St across to next Ch 1 Sp, Ch 6, sk next three st, {Sl St into next Ch 1 Sp, Ch 6, sk next three st} eleven times in total, Sl St into next Ch 1 Sp (i.e. the same Ch 1 Sp that the first Ch 6 was made). (12 Ch 6 Sp, 12 Sl St)

Round 5 – Ch 6 Sp: Sl St across to fourth Ch of next Ch 6 Sp, Ch 6, sk next Sl St, {Sl St into middle of next Ch 6 Sp, Ch 6, sk next Sl St} eleven times in total, Sl St into fourth Ch of next Ch 6 Sp (i.e. the same ch that the first Ch 6 was made). (12 Ch 6 Sp, 12 Sl St)

Round 6 – Rounded Petals: Note: If petals appear too full then substitute 3 HTR for pattern instructions 4 HTR. Sl St across to next Ch 6 Sp, Ch 2 (counts as HDC), (DC, 4 HTR, DC, HDC) in same Ch 6 Sp (first petal made), sk next st {(HDC, DC, 4 HTR, DC, HDC) in next Ch 6 Sp (next petal made), sk next st} eleven times in total, Sl St into second Ch of beg Ch 2. (12 petals)
